How can I prepare myself better for the KSE entrance exams?
A: In order to aid its applicants in preparation to the KSE General Admission Test, KSE has developed a series of preparation guidelines. Firstly, applicants are greatly encouraged to use the guidelines and recommended literature included in the Admission Brochure that gives a brief overview of the Test contents, as well as suggests sources for preparation. The majority of recommended literature is available at the KSE Library that is open to applicants free of charge. Secondly, KSE has placed a sample of the KSE General Admission Test at its website at: kse.org.ua/uploads/file/KSE_General_Admission_Test.doc. Sample is easily accessible and represents the most typical questions and format. Lastly, all applicants of the program are invited to the Mathematics Preparatory Sessions, conducted during the regular KSE Open Houses and a One-Day KSE General Admission Test Preparatory Session six to three weeks before the admissions.
What should I expect from an interview? Do I need to specifically prepare myself?
A: During the interview, interviewers usually ask questions about the applicant’s educational and professional background, academic and career goals, English-language proficiency, as well as about applicant’s familiarization with KSE MA Program’s curriculum. The interview may also include a discussion of the economics exam and the candidate’s application essays. Therefore, for preparation to an interview it is desirable that the applicant gets acquainted with the School, its mission, content and course offerings. This can be easily done by searching the KSE’s website or attending one of KSE Open House events. In the rest, the general rules, also appropriate to a regular job interview, should apply.
Two tips for the preparation of the interview: 1. Know the KSE Program: know what courses are taught in the first and the second years of study (both the names of the courses and their contents are given on the KSE website). Some students only discover at the admission interview that the economics that is taught at the KSE is quite different from the economics taught at the majority of undergraduate institutions in Ukraine. 2. Know what is happening around you: read newspaper/listen to news on the radio or watch TV news. It is important that the applicant is aware about the economic/political situation in his/her country and the world.
Can I be admitted into the program without passing the KSE General Admission Test?
A: In order to be admitted into the program all applicants pass the KSE General Admission Test, as well as go through the interview process. Admission without successful completion of the KSE General Admission Test is not permitted. The program enrolls only those students who are on the list of admitted students. Students who were passing the KSE General Admission Test and an interview, but are not on the list of admitted students cannot be enrolled.
